Jacob As A Nation

The Mighty Soldiers Of Jacob

Joseph: Jacob fought against the Edomites. The Israelites fought against the Edomites. The Edomites were the children and children's children of Esau, and ourselves were the Israelites. The Edomites had many population, were very well populated. They had strong and mighty men, just as Jacob had many strong and mighty men, as soldiers.

The Strong And Mighty Nation Of Jacob

Joseph: The bible authors did not explain all the facts. They only said that Jacob fought and conquered such and such people.

When a battle became severe, Jacob would stood, come into the battlefield, in the midst of the soldiers. Sometimes, he was in the front. When Jacob gave order, Judah would move out with many soldiers.

Judah was the head.

Levi was the second-in-command.

Reuben was the third.

And Gad was the fourth.

Therefore, Judah was the commander of all the armies. He was giving commands, while the others were moving and obeying his commands.

The Israelites Defeats The Edomites

Even so it was, when the Edomites came to fight against Israel. It was Judah that took over from Jacob, as the leader of the Israelite soldiers.

The Edomites thought that Jacob was just an ordinary citizen. They did not know that God blessed Jacob with strong and mighty soldiers. Esau thought that himself was a hunter and a brave soldier, since he was born. He thought that Jacob was a man not capable enough to defend himself. He wanted to go and cut off Jacob’s head. That was his thought when he went into battle against Jacob. But what Esau and his mighty men encountered in the hands of Jacob was far more than what they had expected. That was because Judah was in the position of the first son. It was Judah that struck Esau to death with a spear.

Therefore, Jacob was not a hunter and was not a soldier, but he defeated the strong and mighty Esau and his many soldiers. That shows that victory comes from the Lord. And Benjamin, who was the least of Jacob’s sons, was pursuing the many mighty soldiers of Esau. It was not an easy operation. Yet, Benjamin, the least of Jacob’s family, was chasing mighty men, the soldiers of Esau. Son of man, that is how one with God is majority. The bible accounts are not complete.

Levi And Simeon Against The Shechemites

By Joseph

Joseph: When Levi and Simeon went to battle and killed all the men of Shechem, Jacob did not know. Even so it was with Gad and his brothers. When they plan military operations, nobody would know. The only thing Jacob knew was that whenever the battle became very severe, he would come into the battlefield.

You read of where Jacob was giving his children blessings. About Levi and Simeon, he said that his Spirit will not company with Levi and Simeon, because their anger and wrath are too excessive and destructive.

Son of man, that account is not complete. It was not only Levi and Simeon that went to the battle. All the sons, children and children's children, and soldiers of Jacob, went to the battle. But, it was Levi and Simeon that were leading the operations.

In The Case Of Dinah

By Joseph

Joseph: In the case of the rape of Dinah, Jacob had already overlooked the matter, because the people of Shechem circumcised themselves. He wanted to handle the case, maturely and peacefully. He did not know that the reason why Judah asked the Shechemites to circumcise themselves was to weaken them and to destroy them.

It was all the sons, children and children's children of Jacob, that went to battle against the Shechemites. Levi and Simeon were the leaders in that operation. That was the company that Jacob said that he did not want to be among. Levi and Simeon did not tell Jacob what they were planning.

The Israelites asked all the men of Shechem to circumcise themselves. At that time of circumcision, the men of Shechem were in pains, great pains. They could not even wear their clothes, because the circumcision was very painful. By the time the Israelites came for battle, even if the strength of the Shechemites were 100%, it had reduced to half, such a half could not support or defend them. And the Israelites killed all the men and also killed their king.

Slave Trade

By Joseph

Joseph: At that time, a slave was a slave forever. Some of the slaves ran away from their masters. When a slave ran away, the master would continue pursuing the slave, until he tracked down, caught, the slave.

The Head: Some of the slaves wanted to leave their families, because of certain things which they did not like. Some of the slaves liked the lifestyle of the masters to whom they were sold, and would chose to remain with the master.

Joseph: Slave trade was being done very well in the land of Israelites. Some slaves liked to be bought by the Israelites. Some of the slaves gave themselves willingly over to Abraham, because they saw that Abraham was a successful and prosperous man.

The Head: Just as the youths are rushing to the masters, mentors and mistresses, in this present and modern generations. Once a youth grows up, he looks for a place to go and serve as a houseboy or maid, in order to learn skills, trade or work; in order to become useful and successful in life.
